Rest in peace: Reyburn Dean Burford, 1911 - 2007

Reyburn Dean Burford, avid sailor, long-time power squadron member and past Commodore of the Shreveport Yacht Club, passed away in Clear Lake, TX, July 2. Born in Belton, TX, in 1911, he graduated from Rice University. He worked in Shreveport as a mathematician for United Gas Pipeline Co for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Regena Gayle Burford. They were parishioners at St Marks and at the Anglican Church of the Epiphany, Shreveport.

Rey and Regena were active at the SYC for decades, often helping run regattas and producing luncheons. Rey was a quiet fellow but erudite. When called upon, he was generous with boating knowledge, sailing lore, weather analysis and problem solving.

Rey is also survived by daughters Kay Murphy and her children Gayle Schnell and Dean Murphy, and daughter Nancy Burford and children Adolph Trudeau, Annabel Trudeau and Madeline Kawanaka.
