Timothy Jones & Kermit Poling
Men at work: by concert's end singer Timothy Jones and SSO conductor Kermit Poling had scaled a mountain of music. Jones won special plaudits from the audience - I carried one mash note backstage to him from a woman who shall remain nameless - and Poling distinguished himself with a pulsating, animated job on the podium. To see Poling from the orchestra is to marvel at his enthusiasm and stream of wordless cues.
